Project Ocean at Selfridges

The ocean is a source of food, a place for recreation, and it's beauty has inspired countless artists. But, it's under threat - from overfishing and poor fishing practices.

From 11 May to 12 June 2011, Selfridges is partnering with more than 20 enironmental and conservation groups to celebrate the beauty of the ocean, highlight the issue of over-fishing, help us all understand the threats to the ocean and make positive choices about the right fish to buy and eat.

This week Selfridges celebrated the launch of Project Ocean with a party in the Ultralounge, London - Project Ocean Head Quarters for the next 5 weeks. Selfridges' Creative Director Alannah Weston, ZSL's Jonathan Baillie and a host of collaborators including Jason Hackenwerth and Berth Derbyshire watched as Noah and the Whale played to the crowd who all came to pledge thei support for Project Ocean. Elle Macpherson, Neve Campbell, Cat Deely, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Janet Street-Porter joined the fun too as giant Hackenwerth balloon creatures roamed the lower ground floor and brave guests tried their luck on the Whale Rodeo - all in the name of Project Ocean.
Now that Project Ocean is in full swing there's a lot to see and do. Visit the amazing Washed Up Fashion Exhibition curated by Judith Clark in the Concept Store, attend one of the Ultralounge talks which kicked off last night with guest speakers Charles Clover and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall or simply head to Oxford Street to see Selfridges' spectacular windows.
