Dolce & Gabanna Fall 2011 Campaign

An outfit may play with the gender divide, mixing masculine elements and feminine ones into a mashed bowl of androgynous aspirations. But for Dolce & Gabbana the separation is a little clearer. For their fall 2011 campaign the girls are either utterly feminine in sparkling dresses and leather belt purses, or decidedly masculine. While the masculine outfits naturally carry that androgynous sensuality, they don't venture to incorporate any traditionally feminine elements. Just pants, brogues, and tuxedo jackets topped off by rockabilly hairstyles and perhaps some thick-framed glasses.

The campaign goes a long way to proving just how effective a full androgynous look can be if done right; for it's the likes of Jac, Kate King and Liu Wen in their all-male ensembles that tend to catch your eye even over the ultra-glamorous, sequinned dresses.
